Numerical simulation tools for the design of offshore structures
Simulation of the behaviour of structures at sea represents a major industrial difficulty, due to the complexity of modelling combining highly non-linear effects, complex physics and strong couplings like between fluid and structure. To meet the need of manufacturers for high-performance tools, existing tools must be improved and simplified. Manufacturers will then be able to use these advanced tools to perform their modelling, improve their products and reduce costs.
This project answers needs of industrial partners to improve the modelling accuracy of innovative industrial projects with a high added value (ships, wind turbines, tidal turbines…). These products are subject to complex and extreme environmental conditions such as waves, wind and current.
- Ship optimisation: objective -5% on added resistance in waves
